The
Del Ray Chili Cookoff was started in 2001 by a couple of neighbors
in the alley behind their homes. Every year it grows and now the annual
event is attended by neighbors, friends -- and guests who are soon to
become friends.
It is locally known as the "Rally in the Alley" where the
best chili takes bragging rights and maybe a couple of bucks. You're
officially invited to come, bring some chili, your taste buds, and your
ho down attitude. -- All the particulars are below, or print the guidelines
from the menu above. |

Contestants size up the competition before tasting
begins.
What started as a casual debate about chili a few years
ago eventually turned into the unofficial but highly competitive Del
Ray Chili Cook-Off. This annual event, which is celebrating its seventh
year November 1, is as much about good-natured taunting and showmanship
as it is about chili. Mostly, it’s a great way to get friends
and neighbors together. |
